Ayrlies Wetlands Bird Walk – Mandarin
April 25 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Join us for a peaceful exploration of the Ayrlies Wetlands, a sprawling 14-hectare sanctuary that serves as a vital refuge for New Zealand’s birdlife. Originally a salt marsh, this area was transformed in 2001 into a thriving ecological haven featuring a 3.3-hectare lake and over 20,000 native plantings.
Event Highlights
- Bird Watching: Discover over 80 species of native and visiting birds. Keep an eye out for the New Zealand Scaup, Grey Teal, Pukeko, and the comical New Zealand Dabchick.
- Guided Insight: Learn about the history of the wetlands’ creation and the ongoing restoration efforts that support local biodiversity.
- Scenic Walk: Enjoy a leisurely 3km loop walk (approximately 1 hour) across well-maintained boardwalks and pathways that link the lush gardens to the shores of the Hauraki Gulf.
Important Information
- Parking: Please note that the Wetland Carpark is located approximately 1km further down Potts Road from the main Garden entrance.
