CHINESE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Our bond with the land is essential. As an old Chinese saying goes, “Each land nurtures its own inhabitants (一方水土养一方人)”. As part of New Zealand’s community, we are dedicated to understanding and preserving its natural beauty.

In 2021, we introduced free workshops for the Chinese community on conservation awareness and invasive species identification, sharing valuable knowledge—even during the pandemic. Now, we are expanding these sessions to include participants from all ethnic backgrounds, covering topics such as identifying native plants and animals and recognising invasive weeds.

Looking ahead, we are excited to deepen our community engagement. Starting in 2025, we will organise more outdoor nature activities in Howick’s parks and reserves, beginning with a “Seeking Bats” event this February. Through these lectures and hands-on experiences in our local green spaces, we hope to inspire learning, growth, and a shared commitment to protecting our environment.
